Baku hosts opening ceremony of world championship on BMX

Baku. 5 June. REPORT.AZ/ Today, Baku has hosted the opening ceremony of the world championship on BMX.

Report informs, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov, First Vice President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation (AzVIF), Member of the Steering Committee of the European Cycling Union (UEC), the head of the Working Group on holding world championship, Sahib Alakbarov, vice-president of the National Olympic Committee, Chingiz Huseynzade and others have attended the ceremony.

Welcoming the participants of the World Championship Y.Eyubov spoke about the fact that Azerbaijan is hosting prestigious competitions. " It’s obvious appearance of our country’s development and prosperity to entrust organization of big tournaments to Azerbaijan. Up today, we have hosted the "Baku 2015" I European Games and IV Islamic Solidarity Games "Baku 2017". The Organizing Committee created under the order of President Ilham Aliyev, who cares for all kinds of sports, will ensure the highest level of the tournament. The racetrack meets all the requirements. "

Y. Eyyubov, who wished all athletes success and victory, announced opening of race at the end of his speech.

Notably, more than 1500 athletes from 43 countries will compete in the prestigious competition to be continued until 9 June. According to the program, after the opening ceremony, the competition among younger teens will start in the Challenge category.

Azerbaijan will be represented by 8 athletes at the World Championships. Khayal Ibrahimov, Soltan Israfilov and Justinas Pavlovas, competing in the Challenge category, will join  on June 6. Orkhan Mammadov, Vugar Nasibov, Kanan Babayev and Yelmar Shahmarzadeh will compete on June 7. Agshin Ismayilov competing in the elite category will be on start line on June 8.
