Azerbaijani judoka takes fifth place in world championship - UPDATED - 9

Baku. 21 September. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijani judoka Karamat Huseynov claimed the fifth place in the world judo championship underway in Baku.

According to Report, in the fight for bronze in 60 kg competitions the athlete lost to Georgian rival Amiran Papinashvili.

Other Azerbaijani judokas Orkhan Safarov (60 kg) and Aisha Gurbanli (48 kg) who stepped to the tatami on the first competition day lost their bouts in the 1/8 final.

Azerbaijani judoka Karamat Huseynov took part in his first relegation bout in the world championship held in Baku.

According to Report, his opponent in the 60 kg competitions was North Korea's Kim Yong-gwon . Huseynov gained an ippon victory over his opponent.

He will encounter the one, who loses the Robert Mshvidobadze (Russia) - Amiran Papinashvili (Georgia) bout, for the bronze medal.

Azerbaijani judoka Karamat Huseynov reached the 1/4 final in the world judo championship held in Baku.

According to Report, the 20-year-old athlete participating in 60 kg competitions faced the two-time world champion Naohisa Takato of Japan. Takato gained the ippon victory in the 37th second and got to the semifinal, while Huseynov will take part in the relegation bout for bronze.

The bouts will start at 04.00 pm.

According to Report, in the 1/8 final the 20-year-old athlete upset Spain's Francisco Garrigo. His next opponent will be two-time world champion Naohisa Takato of Japan.

According to Report, in the 1/16 the 20-year-old athlete participating in the 60 kg competitions gained an ippon victory over Russian Olympic champion and two-time champion of Europe, the winner of the First European Games Baku 2015 Beslan Mudranov in 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

Another Azerbaijani judoka participating in 60 kg competitions, Orkhan Safarov lost by ippon to Georgian Amiran Papinashvili in the 20th second in the 1/8 final.

Participating in the 48 kg competitions, female judoka Aisha Gurbanli lost by ippon to Argentina's Paula Pareto.

Another Azerbaijani judoka reached the 1/8 final in the world championship held in Baku.

According to Report, in the 60 kg competitions the 27-year-old athlete gained an ippon victory over Madagascar's Abdou Nazir Bin in 12 seconds in the 1/16 final. His opponent in the 1/8 final will be the champion of Europe and the world, Georgia's Amiran Papinashvili.

Another Azerbaijani judoka in this weight category Karamat Huseynov will encounter Russian Olympic Champion and two-time champion of Europe, the winner of the First European Games Baku 2015 Beslan Mudranov in the 1/16 final.

Notably, earlier female judoka participating in the 48 kg competitions Aisha Gurbanli made her way to the 1/8 final.

Azerbaijani judoka Aisha Gurbanli has reached the 1/8 final in the world judo championship underway in Baku.

According to Report, Aisha Gurbanli, competing in the 48 kg weight category, upset Australia's Caroline Hein and was awarded an ippon victory in 1 minute and 31 seconds. Her next opponent will be Argentine Paula Pareto.

Three Azerbaijani representatives won their first bouts within the world judo championship underway in Baku.

Report informs that in the men's 60 kg competitions Karamat Huseynov gained an ippon victory over Belgian Joran Schildermanns in the 1/32 final. He managed to attain the flawless victory in just 69 seconds. In the 1/16 final Huseynov faced Russian Olympic Champion and two-time champion of Europe, the winner of the First European Games Baku 2015 Beslan Mudranov.

Earlier another Azerbaijani judoka participating in the same category competition Orkhan Safarov upset Mongolian Amartuvshin Bayaraa. He will face Abdou Nazir Bin in the 1/16 final.

Aisha Gurbanli (48 kg) beat Dutch Amber Gersjes in the 1/32 final. She will encounter Australian Caroline Hein in the 1/16 final.

One more Azerbaijani judoka stepped to the tatami in the world judo championship held in Baku.

Report informs that in the 60 kg weight category Orkhan Safarov faced Mongolia's Amartuvshin Bayaraa in 1/32 final. He was awarded an ippon victory 52 seconds before the end of the bout. He is to encounter the winner of Edwin Sello (Botswana) - Abdou Nazir Bin (Madagascar) bout.
