Azerbaijani athletes conclude 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games with 6 medals

Baku. 18 October. REPORT.AZ/ The Azerbaijani national team has concluded the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with 6 medals.

Report informs that 17 athletes were sent to the Olympics with 2 of them claiming gold, 1 grabbing silver and 3 winning bronze out of 17 athletes who were sent to the Olympics.

Judoka Vugar Talibov (66 kg) and freestyle wrestler Turan Bayramov (65 kg) won gold, weightlifter Tarmenkhan Babayev (85 kg) claimed silver, taekwondo player Javad Agayev (63 kg), boxer Nurlan Safarov (60 kg) and female wrestler Shahana Nazarova (43 kg) ) grabbed bronze medals. Rhythmic gymnast Yelizaveta Luzan won a gold medal in the mixed squad of the International Olympic Committee. Her medal was not shown on behalf of her country in the overall ranking.

By this result, Azerbaijani team ranked 31st out of 208 countries and 37th in the number of medals.

Notably, Azerbaijani athletes won 8 (5 gold, 3 silver) and 12 (5 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze) medals at the Singapore 2010 Olympics. The national team concluded the first Olympic Games in the 11th place among 203 countries, while the second in the 10th place among 204 countries.
