Azerbaijan ascends to 15th place in Paris 2024 Olympic medal standings

Azerbaijan has climbed to the 15th place in the medal standings at the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Paris on the heels of judoka Zelym Kotsoiev's (100 kg) gold medal victory yesterday.

Kotsoyev's triumph adds to the earlier gold medal secured by fellow Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov in the 73 kg category. These victories highlight the nation's growing prowess in the sport of judo on the international stage.

Notably, neighboring countries Türkiye and Ukraine currently share the 35th position, each with 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Georgia holds the 17th spot with 1 gold and 2 silver medals.

The top three positions in the medal standings are occupied by China (11 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze), the United States (9 gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze), and host nation France (8 gold, 11 silver, 8 bronze).

As of now, athletes from 50 countries have secured medals at the Paris Olympics. The games are set to conclude on August 11.
