State Border Service and Prosecutor General's Office make statement on arrest of Afghan Mukhtarli

Baku. June 1. REPORT.AZ / The State Border Service and Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan have released an official statement on the arrest of Afghan Mukhtarli.

Report informs, on May 29, 2017 at 22:40 local time, a citizen of the Azerbaijan Republic Mukhtarli Afgan Sabir oglu, born in 1974, was detained by the State Border Service after crossing the border with Georgia bypassing the checkpoint and transferring to Balakan region, protected territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, without documents proving his identity, after which he tried to escape and, not following the legitimate requirements of the SBS officers, resisted with the use of violence, threatening their life and health.

10,000 EUR in cash, a plastic card of the Bank of Georgia and other items were found and seized during the inspection of A.Mukhtarli by the officers of the State Border Service.

On May 30, 2017, Department of Investigation of the State Border Service instituted criminal proceedings under articles 318.1 (crossing of the protected state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan without required documents or outside the state border checkpoint) and 206.1 (smuggling). A.Mukhtarli was detained as a suspect.

On May 31, 2017, A.Mukhtarli was brought in as a suspect, he was charged with 318.1, 206.1 and 315.2 of the article (the use of violence dangerous for life or health, against the persons indicated in Article 315.1 of this Code). Sabail District Court passed a decision on measure of restraint in the form of detention.

At the moment, necessary investigative measures on the case are underway.
