Details of beating of Azerbaijanis in Kyiv revealed - EXCLUSIVE

The details of the May 29 attack on Azerbaijanis in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv became known.

According to Report's Eastern European bureau, a total of 5 Azerbaijanis were beaten during the incident.

They were Alverdi and Fikret Mammadov brothers, who were engaged in small trade in a tent at 54 Almatinsky, Dniprovsky district of Kyiv and their fellow villagers Khazar Jabbarov, Elman Mansimov, and Saday Jabbarov.

Thus, they were injured by plainclothes officers of the Kyiv regional police. The cause of the incident was the escape of Azerbaijani Afsar Mammadov, born in 1973, who was detained on several counts, during a break from the Irpin City Court on May 28. Afsar was the uncle of the Mammadov brothers and contacted them after fleeing. Police officers in civilian clothes said they had information that Mammadov had contacted his relatives after escape and had arrived at their place of work. Then they asked where he was. When the relatives denied it, the police used force and injured them.

At present, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine has taken control of the situation and appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office to take measures in connection with the incident.

The lawyer of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Ukraine met with the injured Azerbaijanis in the hospital, took their appeal in writing, and submitted it to the State Investigation Bureau of Ukraine. The representative of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry in the Ukrainian embassy, the head of the diaspora, visited the injured Azerbaijanis in the hospital. The incident is under control.

A.Mammadov was detained yesterday and handed over.
