The State Security Service (SSS) continues measures to identify and hold responsible the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who are members of illegal armed groups operating in foreign countries, Report informs, citing the State Service.

During the investigation, operative-investigative measures were conducted based on information, according to which Jamalov Orkhan Tofig, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, born in 1986, left the country in 2014 and joined the ISIS terrorist group in Syria.

Earlier, Orkhan Jamalov was found guilty of storing hand grenades and cartridges of various calibers at his home. His guilt was proven as a result of the operative search conducted to prevent the terrorist and provocative actions of members of the illegal armed group "Forest Brothers" led by Ilgar Mollachiyev, a resident of the Zagatala region. After his release, at the invitation and with the help of a man named Shamil, nicknamed "Hanzala," in 2014, Orkhan Jamalov crossed into the Republic of Turkey in August and then entered the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic and headed to Raqqa. There are founded suspicions that Orkhan Jamalov joined an illegal armed group called "Azeri Jamaat," which is subordinate to the terrorist organization ISIS, and participated in training and armed conflicts as part of this criminal group.

O, dindirilmə zamanı din adı altında aldadılaraq həmin bölgəyə getdiyini, orada baş verən hadisələrin dinin əsl mahiyyətinə zidd olduğunu və törətdiyi cinayət əməllərini etiraf edərək səmimi peşmançılıq hissi keçirdiyini bildirib.

Hazırda cinayət işi üzrə əməliyyat-istintaq tədbirləri davam etdirilir.

In connection with the facts mentioned above, Orkhan Jamalov was charged under Articles 12.1, 218.2 (criminal conspiracy), and 283-1.3 (dissemination of religious denominations, performance of religious rites, or religious enmity, religious hatred, participation in groups, training or armed conflicts created for involvement in armed conflicts outside the Republic of Azerbaijan on the grounds of radicalism or religious fanaticism) under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and remanded in custody.

During the interrogation, he said that he visited the region under the guise of a religious mission, that the events there contradicted the true nature of faith, and confessed his crimes and expressed sincere remorse.

The criminal case is under investigation.
