Armenian national admits officers in occupied Azerbaijani territories were mostly from Armenia

In a high-profile trial at the Baku Military Court, Armenian citizen Gurgen Stepanyan has admitted that the majority of officers serving in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan were citizens of Armenia.

The trial involves 15 Armenian nationals accused of committing multiple crimes against peace and humanity. During the April 10 session, Stepanyan responded to questions from state prosecutor Vusal Abdullayev, revealing key details about his military service.

Stepanyan stated that he was drafted into the Armenian army in 2006 and served for two years in the then-occupied Fuzuli district of Azerbaijan. He noted that he was a resident of Jermuk, Armenia, and conscripted by the Armenian state.

He further disclosed that most officers in his military unit were Armenian citizens, and later, he joined the so-called "Khojavand Regiment." For his service, he received a salary deposited to his bank card.

The trial will continue on April 11, as the court proceeds with further questioning of the accused.
