Effective development of e-commerce in Azerbaijan requires the creation of a modern and reliable infrastructure, Senior Director of Visa, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Fintech and Venture Projects in Ukraine, CIS and South-Eastern Europe Yevgen Lisnyak said at the Fintex Summit 2025 in Baku, Report informs.
“The key elements here are access to the Internet and logistics. If fast delivery is established in the country, this removes one of the main pain points for customers - waiting. The main difference between online trading and offline shopping is that in the first case, you need to wait for the goods. Even today, when placing an order on the Internet, I encounter this. Offline - received and left. Therefore, the development of logistics and reduction of delivery times is one of the most important vectors,” he noted.
According to Lisnyak, the infrastructure in Baku is at a good level, but in rural areas, there is still a shortage of high-quality Internet and effective logistics solutions.
“A company that can offer fast delivery and a convenient user experience will certainly gain a competitive advantage,” he added.
The expert also emphasized that, despite the weak development of e-commerce in Azerbaijan, the country has significant potential.
“Azerbaijan has a digitally literate population and high expectations in terms of service quality. At the same time, there is a high share of cash payments and a low level of trust in online services. To accelerate the development of e-commerce, the country should rely on the successful practices of countries such as China and the UK, where the share of e-commerce is 35-40% of the total trade volume,” Lisnyak added.
