UN: Azerbaijan recognized as regional leader in AI, digital infrastructure

Azerbaijan has become a leader in its region in promoting AI for the benefit of society and developing digital infrastructure, UN Tourism Executive Director Natalia Bayona said during the 71st meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe held in Baku, Report informs.

"Azerbaijan is looking to the future. 2.3 million people, or 23% of the country's population, are aged 14 to 29. It is during this period of life that it is important to show young people what opportunities tourism offers - and what they can bring to this industry. The literacy rate in the country is 100%. And I am especially pleased to see that young people share my passion for entrepreneurship and innovation," she emphasized.

Bayona noted that artificial intelligence has become an integral part of reality, but emphasized that technology cannot replace the human factor in tourism.

"Azerbaijan has become a regional leader in promoting artificial intelligence for the benefit of society and developing digital infrastructure. I congratulate the country on this ambitious position. The same energy and positivity that we see here is felt across Europe," said the UN representative.

According to her, Baku has demonstrated significant progress over the past six years.

"It is a special pleasure for me to be back in this historic, vibrant and lively city. The unique combination of modernity and tradition makes Baku truly special. I always say that tourism is the most human of all industries. It has the biggest heart and provides great opportunities for young people, women - and ultimately for everyone. Azerbaijan only strengthens my belief in this. It is a country that proudly preserves and develops its traditions and cultural heritage," Bayona added.
