UAE official: Private sector plays key role for sustainable dev’t of space programs

The role of the private sector is essential to ensure the sustainable development and investment of space programs, Abdullah Ahmad Al Shehhi, a representative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Space Agency, said at the Space Technology Conference (STC2025) in Baku, Report informs.

"Why did we start the public-private sector partnership? As I mentioned in today's and yesterday's sessions, the sector is moving towards commercialization. Today, we are implementing three main projects through the UAE Space Data Center. The first project is called the Geospatial Analytics Platform. This platform, which operates on artificial intelligence, provides access to satellite data, either through our own satellites or through collaboration with some commercial or non-commercial organizations to gain access to large volumes of data," Al Shehhi noted.

The UAE official also highlighted that the second program is called Space Analytics and Solutions, where the main focus is on solving specific issues: "As an example, we launched an analytical solutions initiative for food security, combating climate change, as well as monitoring floods and water resources."

"The third project within the Space Data Center is the Emirates Mars Mission Scientific Data Center. The UAE Space Agency oversees and implements an open data policy. Thus, the data we collect for all space research missions is open to the scientific community so that they can benefit from this data and analyze it to obtain scientific research results," he added.
