SOCAR Turkey receives EU funding for its first digital project

The first digital project, Circular TwAIn, developed by the SOCAR Turkey Ar-Ge and Innovation AS Research and Development Center, has received funding under the Horizon Europe Program (HORIZON), Report informs referring to SOCAR Turkey.

This project, aimed at maximizing sustainability and energy efficiency through artificial intelligence and digital solutions, has become the fourth EU-funded SOCAR Turkey Ar-Ge and Innovation AS project.

“The biggest industrial holding in Turkey, SOCAR Turkey, continues its research and development of innovative projects for sustainable, efficient and safe energy supply. The Circular TwAIn project, the first digital project developed by SOCAR Turkey Ar-Ge and Innovation AS and implemented in partnership with the AI ​​Platform for integrated sustainable and circular production, has become eligible for HORIZON funding,” reads the statement.

The project, which brings together ten international partners, aims to develop a digital tool for energy efficiency in large manufacturing facilities using artificial intelligence. As part of the Circular TwAIn project, SOCAR Turkey Ar-Ge and Innovation AS will manage the large-scale demonstration of the digital application under development and support for validation testing at Petkim’s EO/EG facility. The Circular TwAIn project, which is eligible for support from the European Commission’s Horizon Europe grant program, will make a significant contribution to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

“Efficient and sustainable manufacturing has always been our priority with new products and processes that we have integrated into our manufacturing infrastructure. In the first digital project, Circular TwAIn, which we developed in this context, we will use digital technologies to achieve much more efficient results in the field of sustainable production. The Circular TwAIn project, which will serve to develop our medium to long term strategies for digitalization, sustainability and energy optimization, will continue in cooperation with ten international partners from Spain, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Cyprus and Norway. Our CO2 Focus, CARMOF and NEFERTITI projects, which are developed by SOCAR Turkey’s Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation Center, were previously eligible for funding under the EU Horizon 2020 Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilization Program. Circular TwAIn is our fourth project to be considered worth for support from EU funds. We will continue our work aimed at creating added value for a sustainable future through our innovative projects and international cooperation,” said Bilal Guliyev, director-general of SOCAR Turkey Ar-Ge and Innovation AS Research and Development Center.
