In Azerbaijan, fixed-line broadband internet speeds have surpassed mobile internet speeds, Samir Orujov, head of the Statistics Department at the Information and Communication Technologies Agency, said at the Azerbaijan Hospitality Connectivity Summit, Report informs.
He stated that without the implementation of the Online Azerbaijan project, fixed-line internet speeds would have remained at around 33 Mbps by 2021.
"Five years ago, the country's internet infrastructure was underdeveloped: fiber optic coverage was only 9%, and only 227,000 businesses had access," Orujov noted.
He recalled that ADSL technology was dominant back then, with basic download speeds of 10 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.1 Mbps, while the digital divide between cities and villages remained at 30 percentage points. Currently, the actual speed of fixed broadband internet has reached 91 Mbps.
According to Orujov, fixed-line internet has consistently outperformed mobile internet speeds since August 2024, and this trend continues.
