Russian-speaking hacker group attacks Russian, US and UK banks

Baku. 11 December. REPORT.AZ/ Russian-speaking hacker group MoneyTaker was able to conduct 20 successful attacks on banks and other organizations in Russia, the United States and United Kingdom over the past six months, Report informs citing the Russian media.

Group-IB says that average damage after a successful attack in the US is estimated at $ 500,000. The group operates from early spring of 2016, but previously remained unnoticed, thanks to the extensive arsenal of hacking tools, allowing to cover up tracks.

"By organizing attacks MoneyTaker uses publicly available tools, which makes attribution process an incidental sophisticated problem. Also, the incidents occur in different regions of the world: they robbed one of the banks twice, which indicates a lack of qualitative investigation of the first attack".

We first to disclose links of all the 20 incidents we discovered and do not exclude new thievery", Dmitry Volkov, Head of the Group-IB cyber intelligence department said.
