MEPs propose to include satellite broadcasting in sanctions against Russia

A group of 39 MEPs believe that satellite broadcasting should be included in the next package of sanctions against Russia, Report informs referring to TASS.

In March this year, the EU banned the broadcasting of the RT channel and the operation of the Sputnik agency in the community. At the same time, the French satellite operator Eutelsat and the Luxembourg SES continued to provide them with services for broadcasting in the EU, Russia, Africa and Ukraine.

Unfortunately, the current legal framework and Council decisions do not provide a sufficient legal basis for a ban on all Russian channels broadcasting in the EU, reads the letter sent to High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The drafters of the letter said that the next package of sanctions should include a complete ban on the broadcasting of Russian TV channels and radio stations that spread disinformation about the conflict in Ukraine.
