China’s Baidu applies for metaapp trademark

Chinese tech company Baidu has applied for the registration of the metaapp trademark, Report informs referring to Prime agency.

The move came after Facebook announced its renaming into Meta last week.

On October 29, Baidu Online Network Technology Beijing Limited Company applied for the registration of the metaapp trademark, according to Tianyancha, a Chinese online platform for requesting information about businesses. The international classification of the application includes services related to websites as well as scientific tools. The application is currently pending.

Facebook announced its renaming to Meta on October 28. Its creator, Mark Zuckerberg, said that the new brand focuses on the metaverse, where people will abandon screens and experience the effect of virtual reality. At the same time, at this stage, the names of applications (including the social network Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and others) will not be changed.
