Azerbaijan to hold 'week of innovation' for first time

Baku. 26 September. REPORT.AZ/ Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies (MTCHT) and Heydar Aliyev Center will organize ‘Week of innovation’ in Azerbaijan for the first time, Report informs.

Within the project, there will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest innovations in high technologies, attend the conference, forum and competitions, visit the exhibition, as well as contact ‘Sophia’ - the world’s smartest robot.

Today, a press conference on the abovementioned event was held. Representative of the Heydar Aliyev Center Orkhan Habibov said that youths will get information about the innovation thanks to this project. We hope that the participants will show great interest to the project’.

MTCHT’s employee Rashad Azizov noted that all bodies are conducting innovative reforms: ‘Heydar Aliyev Center is considered as the most innovative place. A number of events are planned to be held within a week. The first week of the event will be very interesting. Significant documents regarding the innovative development will be presented. The project ‘From idea to business’ is also planned to be finalized. Nearly 1,000 youths have been involved in this process. The most successful startups will change to finance in the future. Youths are the most important force conducting innovative reforms. Within the global ‘Influencer’, the robot ‘Sophia’ will be brought to our country. Global Influencer Day will be marked on October 27. Work with ‘influencer’ has become the most important issue in the world’.

The ministry’s official stressed that an interesting event is planned jointly with other groups: ‘At the same time, within the Week of Innovation, High Technologies Park will hold Hackathon competition, which offers ways to solve important issues for the MTCHT, several state bodies in a short run. Moreover, a memorandum is expected to be signed between the High Technologies Park and AstroLabs on attraction of foreign investors for local startups. Within the framework of the Week of Innovation, serial events will be organized with the support of UNDP, Azerbaijan Cybersport Federation, Keepface, Microsoft and other companies. In the ‘Week of Innovation, issues regarding development of the investment environment will be discussed at the round table to be organized by MTCHT and Microsoft, Baku Open Cyber Cup tournament will be organized jointly with Azerbaijan Cybersport Federation. The tournament aims to promote development of the cybersport in our country, increase the interests of youths’ interest in modern information and communication technologies. At the same time, PC games on war and soccer will be organized’.

Head of Keepface Emil Vali noted that they are currently witnessing creation of innovation ecosystem: "We number not so many people today. However, support by important bodies to the innovation wave is being seen. Keepface has been created in Baku and the team consists of Azerbaijanis. We bring global trends to Azerbaijan. For the present, more than 14,000 people have been registered in the Keepface. These users are followed by about 1 billion people in total."

Head of FA International Trade Events Nail Babayev said that they are organizers of a number of events: "We organize events abroad too. We organize the Global Influencer event jointly with the Keepface. At the same time, we are trying to get Sophia robot say hello in the Azerbaijani language."

Thereafter, head of the Azerbaijan Cybersport Federation Ramil Aliyev spoke about the significance of the event.
