WHO urges world to prepare for new pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that humanity needs to prepare for a new pandemic. It considers this topic to be one of the critical issues for discussion at the 73rd annual World Health Assembly, which resumes its work on 9 November through teleconference, Report says, citing TASS.

"We have seen over the last year that countries with strong health infrastructure related to emergency preparedness were able to act quickly to contain and control the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus," the statement by the organization reads.

WHO said that the world community could defeat COVID-19 with the power of science and solidarity. Although the coronavirus pandemic is a global crisis, "many states and cities have successfully prevented and controlled transmission by applying a comprehensive and evidence-based approach."

WHO recalled that the world has united around a "plan to accelerate the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics."
