WHO: Situation with COVID-19 worsening in North Korea

The World Health Organization believes that the situation with COVID-19 in North Korea is getting worse, Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program Michael Ryan said, Report informs referring to foreign media.

Ryan urged North Korea to give the WHO more information about the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, noting big problems with access to raw data and the real situation on the ground, which makes it difficult to analyze the situation.

He noted that the organization has no data on the situation in North Korea, except for officially published by the authorities. He also noted that WHO has repeatedly offered help to the North Korean authorities in the fight against the pandemic, including vaccines for COVID-19.

The North Korean authorities claim that the situation in the country is improving; at the end of May, almost all COVID restrictions were lifted in Pyongyang.

According to official figures, at the end of May in North Korea there were more than 3.5 million cases.
