The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the hantavirus outbreak, which has killed at least three people, to be nearing its end.
According to Report, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that the captain of the MV Hondius, the vessel on which the outbreak was detected, and most of the crew members have already completed quarantine.
The WHO Director-General noted that specialists have traced more than 600 contacts of infected individuals in 33 countries and territories, with over 80% of them successfully completing the 42-day medical observation period.
"Cases are holding steady at 13, including three deaths. We"re closing in on ending this outbreak," he wrote.
