WHO chief announces deficit of funding in fight against COVID-19

ACT Accelerator, the international project launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the combat against the coronavirus pandemic, is facing billions in funding deficit, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement.

Report informs citing Russian media that, according to Ghebreyesus, while $11 billion been allocated for the program, the project needs an additional $22.1 billion. All the same, the missing amount constitutes just a small part of more than $13 trillion spent by countries to budget stimulus.

Ghebreyesus called on the countries to fully finance ACT Accelerator as the best investment in ensuring the global economic recovery.

The World Health Organization said earlier that relying on vaccines alone is the main mistake the countries make in fighting coronavirus.
