WHO, Canada, and US urge to take immediate action on monkeypox outbreak

The World Health Organization (WHO), the Canadian Ministry of Health and the US administration are urging the world to seize the opportunity to prevent the spread of monkeypox and to implement an internationally coordinated response to the virus, Report informs, citing TASS.

The US reported record-breaking 1,048 new monkeypox cases in one day.

In total, 4,639 cases were registered in the United States, 3,738 in Spain, over 1,700 in France, 745 in Canada, over 700 in the Netherlands, more than 500 in Portugal, 203 in Peru, 105 in Israel and Australia. Sixty-three cases of infection were reported in the capital region of Sweden.

Earlier, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that 18,000 cases of monkeypox had been registered in the world.
