UN chief says vaccine inequality allows COVID-19 variants to develop and run wild

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the unequal distribution of vaccines against coronavirus leads to the emergence and spread of new strains.

"Vaccine inequality is allowing COVID19 variants to develop and run wild, condemning the world to more deaths and prolonging an economic slowdown," the UN chief tweeted.

According to him, without a coordinated, equitable approach, a reduction of cases in any one country will not be sustained over time.
