Specialist says how to reduce alcohol's harm on body

It is recommended to drink alcohol with non-alcoholic beverages to reduce its effect, Report informs, citing an interview of the Russian psychiatrist and narcologist Alexei Kazantsev with Sputnik Radio.

“After a glass of alcohol, to maintain the balance of substances, you should take, for example, a sip of water. So you will to some extent reduce the destructive effect of alcohol on the body,” Kazantsev said.

“This is necessary because alcohol disturbs the water-electrolyte balance, has a dehydrating effect, and removes potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium.”

However, the doctor warned not to drink alcohol with sweet soda. This will only worsen the condition, increasing the intoxication and provoking a headache.

As for water, it can also be added to an alcoholic beverage as ice cubes, Alexei Kazantsev noted, adding that it is recommended to give up alcohol altogether - this is the most reliable way to eliminate the harm of alcohol.

Alcohol has an extremely detrimental effect on the human body, regardless of age.
