Scientists reveal products prolonging life by 13 years

Eating legumes, nuts and whole grains and avoiding red meat will extend life expectancy by more than 10 years, Norwegian scientists from the University of Bergen said, Report informs.

According to them, dietary risk factors lead to millions of premature deaths every year. Improper nutrition causes disability and takes years of life. The modern ‘Western’ diet includes a large amount of processed foods, fatty foods, simple carbohydrates.

Changing diet to a healthier one around the age of 20 will add about 10-13 years to life expectancy. In later years, the increase will not be as large, but still significant - 8-9 years after 60 years and about 3.4 years after 80 years.

Scientists hope that both doctors and ordinary people will pay attention to the new data - it is not so difficult to adjust nutrition, and in the future these changes will help to avoid many health problems.
