Scientists find enzyme affecting COVID-19 spread in body

Scientists from the University of Tübingen have found an enzyme in the human body that can curb coronavirus, Report states, citing Merkur portal.

Using a computer model of the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the lungs, experts determined that the virus forces cells to produce particular substances that help it penetrate them.

Experts have found that the enzyme guanylate kinase 1 (GK1) is particularly valuable for the virus. After scientists "removed" it from the body, SARS-CoV-2 stopped reproducing.

Experts believe that their discovery is essential for developing and improving drugs for the treatment of COVID-19.
