A sharp rise in blood sugar leads to diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, diabetes is the second cause of death from COVID-19 after cardiovascular disease, Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine told Report.
According to him, the researches show that the main risk factors in diabetes are age, blood sugar, and other co-morbidities: "We can say that the disease will progress more seriously in patients with uncontrolled diabetes. We recommend that our diabetic patients postpone their daily blood sugar tests unless there is an urgent problem. They should check their blood sugar more often at home, drink enough fluids and follow healthy eating guidelines. As the patients do not feed according to their diets during the pandemic, they face high blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. We recommend that our patients take at least 5,000 steps a day indoors or in the garden. Patients with diabetes must be vaccinated against the COVID-19."
