Pediatrician: COVID-19 in children may cause gastroenteritis

In summer, gastroenteritis in children is manifested in the form of diarrhea and vomiting, a pediatrician at Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics named after K.Farajova Azer Ahmadov told Report.

He said the disease most often occurs in children in summer.

"There are many factors behind it. If the condition lasts for 14 days, it means chronic gastroenteritis. Considering the pandemic, COVID-19 can cause gastroenteritis because there are complaints about diarrhea and vomiting among clinical symptoms. We also know that the death toll from COVID-19 is not so high among children. In such cases, preference is usually given to the symptomatic treatment of children. COVID-19 can also be accompanied by fever. But let's not forget that not every diarrhea and vomiting is a coronavirus."
