Nutritionist reveals which water is better to drink

Candidate of medical sciences, nutritionist, associate professor of Russia’s St. Petersburg State University Andrei Bobrovsky has revealed in an interview with Sputnik radio how water at different temperatures affects the body, and which water is better to drink, Report informs referring to RIA Novosti.

It is believed that water at room temperature is optimal for drinking.

“This is the temperature around 18-22 degrees. Of course, you can always drink such water. But not all people find water of this temperature pleasant. It seems to them that it doesn’t quench their thirst so much,” said the nutritionist.

However, it is better not to drink too much cold water, especially while eating, the doctor advised. Otherwise, overeating is possible since cold drinks slow down the satiety process. According to the nutritionist, this feature is often used in fast food outlets, where such beverages are actively offered.

“Cold water slows down the food’s reaching the intestines and delays the satiety process. Therefore, such a person is more likely to order another dish,” Bobrovsky said.

The nutritionist noted that cold water during the hot season is also not always the best way to quench thirst. Hot tea and hot water are more effective, Bobrovsky noted.

He also advised those looking to cut back on tea and coffee with sugar to try replacing these drinks with plain hot water. According to the nutritionist, he tested the effectiveness of this technique.

“For many people who cannot live without coffee and tea with sugar, switching to hot water without sugar is one of the alternatives,” Bobrovsky said.
