Norwegian doctors suggest treating COVID as seasonal infection

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health believes that in the current epidemiological situation in Norway, COVID can be put on a par with seasonal infections, Report informs referring to Prime agency.

“We are now at a new stage where we must view the coronavirus as one of several seasonal respiratory diseases,” said Geir Bukholm, deputy director-general of the institute.

He explained that the vast majority of people at risk are vaccinated, so hospitals have been relatively vacant lately.

At the same time, this doesn’t mean that the pandemic is over, since vaccination in developing countries doesn’t cover enough people, he added.

According to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, as of September 20, the proportion of fully vaccinated people over 18 years old is about 82 percent of the total population.
