It is known that older people age later, Report informs.

According to EurekAlert, Finnish researchers have come to this conclusion.

The physical shape and mental abilities of the elderly are better than their peers 20 years ago.

Thus, scientists analyzed various indicators in the body of people aged 75-80 and compared them with the elderly's data in 1990. Muscle strength, gait and reaction speed, logic, and working memory are significantly better in the elderly today. They lose these skills more slowly.

Specialists believe that long-term education leads to the retention of cognitive abilities. Physical performance is associated with higher activity and improved health care.

According to the study's author, Matti Munukka, there is an increase in the number of "healthy" years in which the general population does not need care.
