Ministry of Health: No maternal death from coronavirus registered in Azerbaijan in last 6 months

"From the first days of the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women who contracted the virus have been served by two major clinics in the country - the Clinical Medicine Center and the Teaching Surgery Clinic of the Medical University," said a specialist expert of the Ministry of Health, gynecologist Shaiman Gadimova, Report informs.

"It is encouraging that no maternal deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in the last six months. All pregnant women with confirmed coronavirus infection are referred to these clinics. Therefore, the statistics are considered for the republic," he said.

The gynecologist also clarified the issue of vaccination of pregnant women against COVID:

"In world practice, vaccination is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, even for women planning a pregnancy. However, due to widespread epidemics and pandemics, mass vaccinations are carried out without exception to combat the virus. If the virulence of new strains increases and the virus does not completely disappear, then pregnant women can also be involved in mass vaccination. Even babies born to pregnant women infected with the active coronavirus should be breastfed because such infections are not transmitted through milk but blood. All women should breastfeed, except for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and cavernous tuberculosis (overt tuberculosis)."
