Health Ministry's expert: Hepatitis A does not cause chronic liver diseases

Unlike hepatitis B and C, hepatitis A does not cause chronic liver disease, the specialist expert of the Ministry of Health, gastroenterologist Emin Mammadov said.

Report quotes him as saying hepatitis A (infectious jaundice or Botkin's disease) is a viral liver disease.

"Typically, hepatitis A is a self-limiting disease that causes acute inflammation in the liver but leaves no damage. Unlike hepatitis B and C, hepatitis A does not cause chronic liver disease. This virus has been studied extensively over the years and there are even vaccines against it," he added.
