Global coronavirus tally exceeds 540 million

The number of people infected with the coronavirus in the world has reached 540,077,931, Report informs citing statistics on coronavirus infection in individual countries.

According to official data, 6,330,577 people have died from COVID-19 so far. At the same time, 512,656,843 people diagnosed with the disease have been cured. While earlier the United States was the world leader in the number of daily deaths from coronavirus, now Taiwan (211 more infections in the last day) is ahead of it.

In the last day, another 79,663 people in the island state were diagnosed with coronavirus.

According to unofficial data, a total of 800 deaths from coronavirus have been registered in the world over the past day. The figure is not final as some countries hide deaths from COVID-19.

At the same time, 344,370 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the world in the last day.

Coronavirus began to spread in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The World Health Organization named the infection COVID-19 on February 11, 2020, and on March 11 declared the coronavirus a pandemic.
