Glaucoma - world's second-leading cause of blindness

According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness after cataracts, Specialist-expert of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan Imran Jarullazada said, Report informs.

According to him, people over 40 years old have a risk of developing glaucoma:

"However, this disease can strike young people and even babies (congenital glaucoma). Glaucoma, popularly known as Blackwater, is considered one of the most dangerous eye diseases in ophthalmology. According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness after cataracts. The reason is that glaucoma is asymptomatic in the early stages. Therefore, its uncontrolled course leads to irreversible loss of vision."
