German doctors unveil conditions to end COVID-19 waves

"It is necessary to reach 80 percent of people with immune systems, to stop the proliferation of COVID-19," said Lothar H. Wieler, head of the Robert Cox Institute (RKI) in Berlin, Report informs, citing foreign media.

"We can't lift many restrictions unless the share of people who gain immunity through vaccination or illness exceeds 80 percent. Then there will be new infections, and cases, but no waves. That is, the pandemic will be under control," Wheeler said.

He called for the gradual and systematic lifting of restrictions. "As the number of immunized people increases, some restrictions may be lifted," he said. The higher level of vaccination will allow us to prevent a greater number of infections. An increase in the vaccination rate will lead to a significant improvement soon," Wheeler said.
