Food Safety Agency bans use of 191 pesticides

The Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan has banned the use of 191 pesticides containing active ingredients in the country, Chairman of the Agency Goshgar Tahmazli said at a press conference on the agency's activities in the first nine months of 2021, Report informs.

According to Tahmazli, amendments were made to the Law of the Russian Federation "On the safe use of pesticides and agrochemicals," which came into force on June 29, 2021: "According to the law, an agreement will be signed between the Agency and the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor). Under the agreement, it is planned to strengthen state control in this area, including the provision of information to the other side on the norms of pesticides and agrochemicals, the residual content of pesticides, nitrates, and heavy metal salts in fruits and vegetables within the standards in force in Russia," he said.

Goshgar Tahmazli noted that only state-registered pesticides and agrochemicals should be imported into the country.
