Doctor warns against risk of cancer due to plastic utensils

Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Russian endocrinologist Anna Goncharova, in an interview with Govorit Moskva Radio, assessed the danger of developing cancer due to plastic dishes, Report informs.

Long-term storage of food in plastic containers is fraught with the migration of harmful substances into food, and subsequently into the human body. Thus, according to the expert, the risk of developing allergic reactions and oncological diseases increases.

Goncharova explained that any plastic is capable of penetrating its environment and promoting its oxidation. Fat-containing foods are most susceptible to this effect. For example, consumers may notice that purchased containers of Korean carrots are often colored orange.

“This is not only the penetration of carrots into the plastic but also the reverse penetration of the container components into the food product. The longer the contact is, the more products harmful to the human body will penetrate into the food,” the expert noted.

Depending on the type of plastic, it can be less and more harmful, but there is no completely safe variation of the material, the specialist emphasized.

Plastic dishes are a factor not only in the increase in the frequency of allergic reactions but also in the general decline in the state of people’s health, Goncharova said.

The doctor advised against using such dishes for long-term storage or heating food.
