COP29 to address critical human health issues, says UN Coordinator

The upcoming COP29 conference is set to tackle a wide range of human health topics, said Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Speaking at a symposium titled "One Health Uncovered: Preparing for COP29 with Intersectoral Insights," Andreeva emphasized the growing importance of health issues in the face of global challenges.

Andreeva highlighted the alarming increase in diseases worldwide. "Today, the concept of One Health is more crucial than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a stark reminder of the importance of health security for everyone,” she stated.

The UN Coordinator stressed the need for close cooperation among various agencies working in the health sector. "By coordinating efforts across different sectors, we can achieve significant progress in mitigating risks," Andreeva explained.

She added that collaboration and partnership are at the core of the One Health concept.

Andreeva expressed confidence in Azerbaijan's ability to fulfill its commitments in the health sector. "The Azerbaijani government has announced that numerous human health topics will be discussed within the COP29 framework. I am confident in the country's ability to meet its obligations in this area," the UN Coordinator noted.
