For people with immunity after vaccination or recovery, the delta strain of the coronavirus is no more deadly than other varieties of the virus, a molecular biologist, a researcher at the Lomonosov Moscow State University Sergey Kharitonov told RIA Novosti, Report informs.
"It just spreads among at-risk groups very actively. Those who are already vaccinated or have recovered no longer die from it. But older people, people with aggravated diseases who do not have immunity, die more often from it simply because it reaches them faster," the specialist explained.
In early summer, scientists warned of the danger of the "Indian strain" SARS-CoV-2 Delta. It also threatens the vaccinated. This variant has two main mutations in the receptor-binding domain, which two to three times reduce the immune defense in vaccinated and those who had recovered from the infection before.
The WHO noted that vaccination against coronavirus reduces the likelihood of hospitalization when infected with the delta strain.
