Baku hosts international conference on COVID-19: Early and Late Complications

Scientific Practice and Teaching Center of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee, the Central Customs Hospital, and the Florence Nightingale Hospitals, an official partner of the Central Customs Hospital, are co-organizing an international scientific conference on COVID-19: Early and Late Complications, dedicated to World Antimicrobial Awareness Week on November 18-24.

Report informs that the conference began with the sound of the Azerbaijani National Anthem.

The conference, attended by 150 people in person and more than 500 experts online, will feature a total of 19 presentations by leading Azerbaijani and Turkish experts in two panels and an interactive board discussion and question-and-answer sessions.

Chief of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee, Major General of the Medical Service Jeyhun Mammadov noted that 46 state hospitals had been designated in the country to fight the pandemic:

"One of these charged hospitals, the Central Customs Hospital, has been treating only COVID patients for a year and a half. During this period, more than 1,600 coronavirus sufferers were hospitalized at the Central Customs Hospital, and 233 of them in critical condition were treated in the intensive care unit. Of these patients, 183 were connected to an artificial lung ventilator, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was used to heal 16 patients."

Mammadov said he believed the conference would make a worthy contribution to the fight against coronavirus in Azerbaijan and thanked all his colleagues for their work during the pandemic.
