Azerbaijani scientist: Delta strain not that deadly as it is believed to be

The latest scientific statistics from the UK make it possible to see important indicators, according to Azerbaijani scientist Nuran Abdullayev, the chairman of the German-Azerbaijani Society of Radiology and Neuroradiology, Doctor of Medical Sciences at the University of Cologne Clinic.

"Mortality from the delta strain has dropped even lower and compared to the alfa strain with the mortality rate at 1.9%, delta's indicator is 0.2%. So we can say for sure that currently, there is no scientific evidence that the delta strain is more deadly than the previous variants of the virus.

He noted that the delta strain exceeds 95% of new cases in Israel and Singapore: "Owing to the mRNA vaccines, the mortality rate is very low. The delta variant is mostly spread among those unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. A decline in mortality rate in the recent reports from the UK is due to the spread of the delta variant mostly among the youth, where deaths are quite seldom."

Abdullayev noted that the statistics in Great Britain gives an amazing picture when the infection cases for the period from August 2020 until March 2021 are compared to the indicators from April up to date:

"Between August 2020 and March 2021, the deaths per 1000 people made 18, and the number of hospitalizations was 81. From April 2021 up to date, the number of deaths per 1,000 people made four, and the number of hospitalizations made 45. In addition, the coefficient of reinfection with the delta variant has dropped in Great Britain and is currently similar to that of the alfa strain.
