Azerbaijan imposes restrictions on livestock imports from several EU countries

The Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan (AQTA) has announced restrictions on the import of livestock products from several regions in France, Liechtenstein, Italy, Romania, and Austria.

Report informs, citing the official information from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), that bluetongue disease has been registered in the New Aquitaine region of France and the cities of Schaan and Mauren in Liechtenstein. Additionally, highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in Lower Austria, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, and the Tulcea County of Romania.

To protect the country from these infectious diseases, Azerbaijan has temporarily restricted the import of all types of live cattle and small ruminants within a 150 km radius of the disease foci in the listed regions, following the zoning principle.

Furthermore, the import of live poultry, hatching eggs, poultry meat, ready-made poultry meat products (except for heat-treated items), and poultry feed (except for plant, chemical, and microbiological feed) from enterprises within a 10 km radius of the disease foci in these regions has also been restricted.

The AQTA has appealed to the State Customs Committee to take appropriate measures regarding vehicles arriving or transiting through the specified administrative territories to Azerbaijan or transiting through the country to other nations.
