AFSA: Mobile laboratory to operate during WUF13

The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) will set up a mobile laboratory during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), to be held in Baku on May 17-22, Report informs, citing the agency.

As part of preparations for the event, assessments were carried out in the food units of hotels where guests will be accommodated. Following inspections, the facilities were issued mandatory instructions over identified shortcomings and provided with methodological support. Repeat assessments found that the shortcomings had been eliminated.

In addition, monitoring was conducted at nearly 300 facilities, including catering establishments operating in the city center and areas close to hotels, as well as major shopping centers. Improvement measures were carried out at those facilities.

Regular control measures are also being carried out at two catering companies and 28 trade and catering facilities that will operate on the territory of the Baku Olympic Stadium, and the compliance of products with requirements is being assessed. All menus, raw materials and products are used in coordination with the agency. Special attention is paid to ensuring that labels contain complete information.

To obtain more prompt and flexible results, a mobile laboratory of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Institute, which is subordinate to AFSA, will operate during the event, and products will be tested on site.
