Zakharova: More than 11,000 Azerbaijanis study at Russian universities

In 2020, it is planned to hold the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Russia, Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"In 2019, the Days of Russian Culture were held in Azerbaijan, and the next year it is planned to hold the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Russia. Branches of leading Russian universities are functioning in Baku - these are Moscow State University and the First Moscow State Medical University. In total, more than 11,000 Azerbaijanis are studying at Russian universities, of which more than one thousand are on a budgetary basis, " Zakharova said.

According to her, the progressive development of the Russian-Azerbaijani partnership is largely ensured by intensive political dialogue at the highest and the high level: "So, in 2019, two meetings of the presidents of our countries took place on the sidelines of One Belt - One Way international forum in Beijing on April 26 and the Valdai Forum on October 3 in Sochi. First Vice President of Azerbaijan, Mrs Aliyeva paid a visit to the Russian Federation on November 20-25," she said.

Zakharova said that close cooperation has been established between Russia and Azerbaijan at the level of governments, parliaments, public organizations.

"Mutual trade is growing. At the end of 2018, it grew by almost 14%, amounting to $2.5 billion. In January-September, it exceeded $2.2 billion. Roadmaps in the main areas of bilateral cooperation for the period up to 2024 are being successfully implemented," spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

She emphasized that today more than 700 joint companies, including 200 with 100% Russian capital, operate in Azerbaijan.

“The intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is working effectively. Its next meeting is scheduled for December 9 in Baku,” Zakharova said.
