Working Group of mine-affected countries may be established in NAM

A Working Group of mine-affected countries may be established in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Sadig Gurbanov, chairman of the natural resources, energy, and ecology committee of the Milli Majlis (Parliament), said at the public hearing held on November 4 at the parliament themed “Tackling the Threat of Landmines: The Impact of Explosives on the Ecosystem," Report informs.

According to him, Armenia's mine terrorism is contrary to the norms of international law: "Official Yerevan should respond, and relevant international organizations and institutions should also support Baku. Because after the 44-day Patriotic War, the biggest problem of Azerbaijan was the mine threat. President Ilham Aliyev also proposed to add mine threat to the list of principles covering sustainable development goals of the UN."

The chairman of the committee said that intensive work is being done to create a NAM Working Group of countries affected by landmines: "During the occupation of Armenia, more than one million landmines were buried in the territories of Azerbaijan. Our civilians have lost their lives because of landmines. Among them are children."

Gurbanov stressed that Azerbaijan wants peace and security in its territory, but unfortunately, Armenia still does not respond to Azerbaijan's calls for peace.
