US expert: By addressing UN Security Council, Armenia trying to score more political points

Armenia’s attempt to appeal to the UN Security Council is an unconstructive step, which demonstrates that the country is only interested in attracting as much international attention as possible, US journalist, national security analyst, lawyer Irina Tsukerman told Report.

She noted that this step of Armenia undermines the negotiation process to reach a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

“An attempt to use an international organization as a lever against Azerbaijan will not lead to any flexibility in this or any other issues,” the expert added.

The fact that Armenia is not considering an alternative Aghdam-Khankendi route, she says, speaks for itself: “They are more interested in scoring political points than in finding practical ways to deliver the ‘humanitarian aid’ they supposedly need. They are just trying to impose their will, rather than come up with a reasonable mutually beneficial solution.

In general, it is absurd to claim that the Armenian population of Karabakh needs foreign humanitarian assistance when Baku offers them citizenship and the same rights as everyone else in the country,” Tsukerman concluded.
