UNGA President calls for a ceasefire during a pandemic

"No country can cope with the threat of a coronavirus pandemic alone," President of UN General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande said.

Report says he spoke during the video conference of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) entitled "We stand together against COVID-19", held on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"We must create a stronger and more stable system. The debt of countries is growing. We haven't solved this problem yet. We are still in the middle of the problem."

In the current circumstances, he urged to end the ongoing armed conflicts and follow the ceasefire regime.

"As the United Nations, we declare that the members of the NAM also took crucial steps for the fight against the pandemic. We should work together and meet people's expectations. We must also ensure that people are fully supplied with food with minimal losses."

He thanked the President of Azerbaijan for organizing a conference, and those who are fighting against the pandemic.
