UN representative: Global South NGO Platform - hub for joint struggle against colonialism

The Global South NGO Platform will serve as a platform for the collective fight against the injustices faced by the countries involved, including poverty, the consequences of climate change, colonial legacies, the digital divide, trade inequality, and other issues, Wook-Jin Chang, representative of the NGO department in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), said at the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying Azerbaijan is making a significant contribution to fostering close cooperation among communities and mobilizing efforts for this cause.

"There are only five years left until 2030. Time for sustainable development is running out. Together we are strong. Let's not wait for change but lead it. The Global South NGO Platform is working to bring the issues faced by countries in this strategic geographic region to the international level and to find solutions. The platform provides for a unified voice in international organizations, including the UN, and facilitates global coordination," Wook-Jin Chang said.
