Azerbaijan places significant emphasis on the issue of gender equality, according to Venge Nyirongo, a staff member of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, who was commenting to Report on the action plan presented by Azerbaijan as part of its presidency at COP29.
"We highly value the initiatives proposed by Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29 and the themes they have chosen. We welcome Azerbaijan's desire to draw the attention of the international community to the importance of gender equality in the context of climate change," he noted.
The UN representative also highlighted that approximately 2 million women and girls suffer from food scarcity as a result of climate change. "It is commendable that Azerbaijan is raising this topic," Nyirongo added.
